Sand Key Park Is A Great Place To See Surg Breaking On Rock And To Find Sea Shells
Sand Key Park is another of my personal favorites in Pinellas county and offers many photography opportunities. This beach, especially where it meets the stone jetty, offers the best shell collecting in the Clearwater area. There are also colorful signs and lifeguard stands to contrast against the white sand, blue sky and aqua sea of the Gulf of Mexico. Many varieties of gull, tern and other shore birds are always present for those seeking native Florida wildlife. Egrets and herons are regular visitors as well. The stone jetty is a good spot for photos of surf crashing on the rocks. During and right after storms are best for surf shots. T he beach at Sand Key is every bit as nice as Clearwater Beach but with far fewer people on an average day. They are only five minutes and one bridge apart but Sand Key is not as well known. The water also gets deep much closer to shore than in most of this area. If it is still too crowded for your taste, just continue south for another five minutes. You will leave the tourists behind and get free parking as well! The park at Sand Key has more than just a great beach to offer. There is also a large dog park where the pooch can play off-leash. There are nice picnic tables under mature trees along the water as well as covered areas in the center of the park. The Clearwater sailing center is right across the street if you would like sailing instruction or to rent a boat. Good restaurants are all around to fuel your fun in the sun.
