The Manhattan Gallery - Big Apple Travel Photography
The Manhattan Gallery celebrates a great place to visit with your camera. It is truly the heart of New York City. If you like big buildings and architectural details, this city is hard to beat. Besides all of the buildings that have become household names over the years(Empire State, Chrysler, Flatiron, etc...)are many others that are just as picturesque. Central Park offers an amazing variety of scenic photography as well as wildlife. Before 8:00 a.m. it seems that most people in the park are bird watchers and dog walkers. This park has many architectural and sculptural wonders within its large boundaries. Numerous lakes and ponds are home to ducks, geese, herons and egrets. Interesting views of the city appear through the foliage as you stroll along. The Bramble is large and heavily wooded enough to get lost in for a while. Battery Park on the southern tip of Manhattan has views of the Statue of Liberty, the Staten Island Ferry(free), interesting public sculptures and easy access to the Wall Street and Ground Zero areas of the city. I found the Vietnam memorial plaza at the east end of Wall Street to be very nicely done and a proper tribute to those who served in that war. The view of Trinity Church looking west along Wall Street is a classic. The Greenwich Village, China Town, Little Italy and SOHO neighborhoods are all distinctive and have their own charm and character. Washington Square Park offered a free outdoor concert by a brass band from Marseilles, France. A restaurant appropriately called "Fish" took care of hunger and thirst with no frills good service. Dried whole octopus and fresh jellyfish are for sale at the open-air markets. Getting around the city is easy on foot, by subway or by cab. Taxis are most convenient but also the most expensive and not necessarily faster than the subway. Walking is enjoyable and gives a real feel for the different neighborhoods that you pass through. Enjoy these photos. There will be more coming.
