Binoculars, May 19, 2008
This is a very basic product shot done for a future Photography Accessories page. The binoculars were placed on a sheet of white gator-foam in open shade with two smaller white reflectors to fill shadows. No flash or other artificial light was used and set-up, shoot and tear-down took approximately ten minutes.

Wood Duck With Chick, May 20, 2008
Very shy birds that are difficult to approach and not often seen in areas easily accesable to the public.

Turkey Vulture, May 21, 2008
These carrion eaters are common throughout Florida.

Great Blue Heron With Breakfast, May 22, 2008
A big early-morning meal for a big bird. These herons can stand over four feet tall and are capable of catching and eating fish that are quite large. They are a common site anywhere in Florida where there is open water in which they can wade and fish.

Moorhen With Chick, 5/23/2008
Spring is well under way in Florida and eggs are hatching(and some chicks nearing fledge time). This moorhen chick is from the second round of egg laying this year.

Peeling Bark and Palmetto Frond, May 24, 2008
I really liked the play of light and shadows here. The green of the saw palmetto adds a nice asymmetric color accent to the left side. The curving lines of the bark and palmetto fronds, as well as the vertical lines, add both dynamism and a touch of serenity. The background is just defocused enough to be both recognizable and not distracting from the main subject.

Passport and Keys, May 25, 2008
Travel photography actually requires traveling.

Clearwater Causeway Bridge, May 27, 2008
This new high-arch bridge over the intercoastal waterway connects Clearwater(mainland) with Clearwater Beach(barrier island). It replaced a very old drawbridge that became impractical because of increasing traffic.

The Morning Cup, May 28, 2008
Daily rituals can make good photographs, too.

Muscovy Duck Chicks, May 29, 2008
These chicks were temporarily left on my lawn while their mother foraged for food in the pond. New chicks always make me think of Spring.

Broken Rose Headstone Carving, May 30, 2008
In headstone symbology, roses almost always denote a woman’s grave and signify beauty. A broken stem denotes a life cut short.

Symmetrical Boardwalk, May 31, 2008
Looking into the George McGough park from the intercoastal waterway in Largo, Florida
